We have another artist spotlight for you! This week we had the joy of interviewing Rekha Salin aka @illustrate_daily !
Hello! Please can you give us a brief little introduction about yourself?
I am an artist and illustrator from India, living in Bahrain with my husband and two kids who are my inspiration, constant critiques and cheerleaders.
I come from a finance and accounting background. However, when my son was born (10yrs now) i had to quit my job and that sudden void drove me crazy. I naturally fell back on art to keep me occupied. Living in cities all my life (until now) both in India as well as the countries I have lived in, has lead me to color my art with more greenery in the world of walls and bricks.
What inspires you?
I love to draw kids and nature- flower, foliage. I keep a whole album of pictures I take of people on streets, parks and malls and when I feel uninspired, I refer them back. I am also inspired by instagram challenges and find them a great way to create new work.
What is your favourite things to draw?
People and nature especially flowers, leaves, foliage are my favourites to draw.
What art goals do you have for this year?
My art goals this year is to get my work submission ready and be represented by an agent.
What techniques/supplies do you use?
For illustrations I love to work digitally. For sketchbooks I love traditional mediums, acrylics and watercolors for painting and charcoals for sketching are my favourites.
What advice would you give to another doodler/artist?
Just show up. Most of us illustrators are very self critical and its very important to no matter what put our artwork out there into the world, you never know who is looking, who is getting inspired and from where work would come. Also its absolutely essential to practice everyday, no matter how busy our lives can get we can definitely squeeze in a 15 minutes sketch on a busiest day!
