Artist Spotlight:Jen Holcombe – Friday Doodle Club

Every week we highlight one of our amazing doodlers! Today we get to learn more about Jen Holcombe aka @jenholcombeart

Hello! Please can you give us a brief little introduction about yourself?

Hello I'm Jen ! I'm married with two gorgeous children (and two gorgeous dogs). I work part time heading up the children's work for a local charity. I graduated about 16 years ago with a degree in Fine Art then didn't draw for a while. This year I picked up my pencil and remembered how much I love to draw.

What inspires you?

I'm inspired by nature, colour, positivity and love. Oh, and I absolutely love flowers.

What is your favourite thing to draw?

I love to draw fun and colourful things! Anything from children's illustration to insects. There is normally some kind of flower found somewhere in my artwork.

What art goals do you have for this year?

Earlier in the year I decided that I wanted to draw more. One of the things I've always found hard is sharing my artwork, so I challenged myself to set up an Instagram account just for my art stuff. I've been amazed and grateful by the positivity that's come my way since. After a while I set myself a goal to open up an Etsy shop of my own this year, which I've just launched. I'm hoping to grow my Instagram account and my Etsy shop. If I was noticed by a children's illustration agency that would make my dreams come true!!

What techniques/supplies do you use?

I currently find that digital art works best for me. In a busy house with children, dogs and a husband, I find that if I leave a painting out, something else will inevitably be put on top of it (like a school bag). I've been learning how to use Procreate and my Apple Pencil, which I'm really enjoying.

What advice would you give to another doodler/artist?

I think, just get started! Have a go and don't worry if it doesn't turn out like you thought it would. I've found that just being creative does amazing things for my mental health.
